Co-adapting and testing a  participatory group programme for parents/carers of children with complex neurodisability

Study Overview

The ENCOMPASS study consists of a group of studies that aim to explore community- based group programmes that support families of children with complex neurodisability, such as cerebral palsy.

This particular phase of the study is a PhD project. We aim to co-adapt the "Baby Ubuntu" programme for parents/carers of children with complex neurodisability, such as cerebral palsy, in a diverse, urban setting in the UK.

Variations of the Ubuntu caregiver training programme have successfully been developed and tested in low resource settings such as Bangladesh, Ghana, Uganda and Brazil. This is the first time the programme is being adapted for a high-income country like the UK.

Both healthcare professionals and parents/ carers in Newham, East London have participated in the initial phases of the ENCOMPASS study. All data gathered has been theoretical thus far, and we are currently in the practical co-adaptation phase.
